Day Three At Cardinals Camp Report

Day three of the Arizona Cardinals Training Camp was the first practice this 2016 season in pads. The hitting drills just brought true football to life this season as the team will now find its way to shape into the powerhouse super bowl contender they are projected to be.

There is much to be put into place as the positions get fought out. Some players are getting a trial by fire early due to injury, such as rookie cornerback Brandon Williams. Today Williams was greeted with a welcome-to-the-NFL moment when he was absolutely burned on an 80-yard touchdown bomb from Carson Palmer to John Brown. A duo that has done this for the last two seasons to veteran corners around the league and was licking their chops to show this rookie the speed of the NFL. The rookie actually admitted later in an interview “I’ve got a long way to go,” Williams said afterward. “The speed of the game is way faster than college.”

But for the most part Williams looks like he has a bright future ahead of him, that according to his now mentor star cornerback Patrick Peterson who declared ““That kid, he’s got it,” said Peterson while the rookie conducted an interview.

If one can get the best corner in the league to have a comment of that nature he is doing something right.

The center position has been a topic of conversation all off-season and the fight is just begun in camp, with A.Q Shipley leading the way so far and looks like he may hold on to the position going forward. The other candidates are veteran Earl Watford and Evan Boehm. On the field, it’s been only Shipley with the ones and the other two seem to be battling for the number two spot.

Every camp can’t exist without the dreaded injury report, and so far the Cardinals do not have a major injury to report, but they do have one that may affect progress in a certain area that was lacking all last year in the teams pass rush. Rookie Robert Nkemdiche didn’t practice for the second straight day due to a high ankle sprain and is expected to miss a few weeks. That should put him behind the eight ball of getting the playbook reps in, but his talent alone should help him get caught up once he returns.

Other injuries were tight end Jermaine Gresham left practice with undisclosed injury. Cornerback Mike Jenkins was reported with a broken bone in his hand and his status has yet to be updated.

Kazual Sportz will continue to bring you the latest happenings as they happen at the Cardinals training camp 2016, Stay tuned.
