Basketball offseason workouts are in full swing. Suns fans have been delighted to see star Devin Booker filling highlight reels of open gyms against elite talent around the league. Recently, a video surfaced of Booker voicing his displeasure for being double-teamed. Booker was facing a team that had Joakim Noah and Ben Simmons, here’s the exchange below:

Why double-team him?

Without context, this makes sense. Why would you be double-teaming when everyone is trying to work on their individual games right now? Some of this is being debated by casual fans. “Being double-teamed is part of the game and you should prepare for that.” But let’s add some context. On the 16th, Swish Cultures released footage of Devin Booker destroying that very same team. If you look closely, you’ll notice that this is indeed the exact same day. Unless everyone came back days later wearing the exact same clothes (gross).

The question now becomes, did the double-team occur BEFORE or AFTER Booker was destroying this team by himself? Here’s a quick refresher of said highlight reel:

Devin Booker was double-teamed AFTER the highlight

It is unlikely that Booker was double-teamed (through Joakim Noah’s instruction I presume) to start the game. The more likely scenario is that Booker was doubled during or after his impressive highlight reel. If I was Joakim Noah, I would have done the SAME THING. Yes, players are trying to work on their game. But it was obvious that Devin Booker was a human cheat code that day and needed an extra challenge.

A greater exchange would have been Devin continuing to light it up WHILE being double-teamed, then letting Joakim Noah hear about it.

Regardless, Suns fans should be excited for the growth in their star player and hopeful that a Booker/Noah rematch takes place this coming season. Because at the end of the day, “we talkin’ bout practice man.”

UPDATE: Devin Booker is working on passing out of double teams today
