Ottawa University of Arizona Wins First Game on New Court!

The men’s basketball team of Ottawa University of Arizona played their home opener at 7:00 pm on November 9th.  This home opener event was very different as this was the first time a game had been played on the new court at Faith Arena.  The first player to score on this new court was a member of the Ottawa University of Arizona; number 15 Dimetres Moore with a layup.  

The Ottawa University of Arizona basketball team competed against Embry-Riddle Arizona on November 9th and won with a final score of 79 to 76.  Player of the game, Dimetres Moore, manueverd six steals within the first 11 minutes of the game assisting OUAZ to a fast start. Early in the second half, Moore found himself in foul trouble resulting in warming the bench for the remainder of the game.  This is when Embry-Riddle erupted into attack mode. Embry-Riddle scored twelve points with 12 minutes remaining in the second half which is when Dimetrus Moore took over the game. His aggressive style earned him a final stat line of 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 steals.  When Dimetrus Moore was asked how he led his team from twelve points his reply was, “That’s when I turned it up a notch not everything was going our way… you know what, let me get in the passing lanes, get more aggressive and get some steals.”

Number 5 of Ottawa University of Arizona, Shazier Lawson, had a phenomenal game with twenty-two points, nine rebounds, and three steals as well.  Possibly the most impressive stat for Shazier Lawson was when accrued fourteen field goal attempts and 10 field goals increasing his shooting accuracy to 71.4 percent! Brian Carey, number 11,had accrued a double-double as well for OUAZ.  Carey earned nineteen points and ten assists this game!  

After three games, Ottawa University of Arizona currently has two wins and one loss.  Their one loss occurred while playing Benedictine Mesa after a heartbreaking game winning layup.  On Saturday, OUAZ has an opportunity for revenge over Benedectine Mesa at Ottawa University of Arizona’s new home court starting at 2pm.  Utilizing players like Dimetres Moore, Shazier Lawson, and Brian Carey anything can happen this year for Ottawa University of Arizona!
