Diamondbacks Late Rally Fails while Kelly Struggles

The Dbacks had their home opener tonight in front of a sell crowd at Chase Field Thursday night, unfortunately a lot of that crowd was wearing Dodger blue but I think everyone is used to it by now. The Dbacks dropped their home opener tonight 5-2 but they are nearly done playing the Dodgers believe it or not.

Merrill Kelly struggled tonight after pitching well his first time out against the Dodgers. Command was an issue tonight as he walked four batters and gave up four runs in 5.2 innings while throwing 99 pitches. Compare that to his counterpart Dustin May who’s applying for early season ownership of the Dbacks, he only threw 83 pitches in 6 innings while punching out 6.

The more concerning part is the disappearing act of the offense. Only 5 hits tonight against this vaunted Dodgers lineup that will not get the job done, and not against any team for that matter. Now credit where credit is due the team did try and claw their way back in the game and had the tying run up in the 7th were Josh Rojas pulled a ball just foul that would have tied the game.

After a very slow start to the season Jake McCarthy and Gabriel Moreno both had extra base hits and squared the ball up well, hopefully signs of things to come. The Dbacks will look to bounce back in game two of the four game set. Madbum attempts to right the ship and will be opposed by Clayton Kershaw
