The Diamondbacks currently have won 8 of their last 11 games and are 6-2 during this 9-game away stand. The Diamondbacks rookie pitchers deserve a ton of credit over the last 11 games and have turned their own seasons around after some bad starts. The Philadelphia Phillies may be struggling but they are no slouches as they made the World Series just last year.
Today’s starting pitcher was Ryne Nelson who pitched 6 innings and allowed 3 hits, and 1 run. Ryne Nelson over the last 2 games has pitched 11.1 innings, allowed 4 hits, and 1 run. This is an incredible turnaround considering the previous 3 games he pitched 13.2 innings, 23 hits, and 12 earned runs. Currently, Ryne’s ERA is down to 5.02 which may not sound impressive but 5 games ago he was 6.39.
Yesterday’s pitcher was Tommy Henry, another young rookie pitcher that struggled early this season but yesterday pitched 5.2 innings, 4 hits, and 2 earned runs. Arizona has been putting incredible pressure on their young talent this season because of the great season this team has put together. The rookies have answered though to put the Diamondbacks 9 games over .500 which hasn’t happened since 2019.
It’s not every day I feel bad for the managers and the decision-makers but I would hate to be them right now. With Zach Davies potentially ready to start soon all three rookie pitchers are pitching great and giving their team a chance to win which is all you can ask for. So the question is between Pfaadt, Henry, Davies, and Nelson who will be the odd man out?
Lourdes Gourriel Jr. has continued his insane hitting streak of 16 games in a row including an important hit today as he got a double in the 8th inning which resulted in him being the go-ahead run. Corbin Carrol hit 3 for 3 today continuing to prove he’s worth every cent of his contract. Moreno is the defensive player of the game as he did his best impersonation of Yadier Molena, diving left and right to save balls and even threw Bryce Harper trying to steal for his 11th stolen base out of the year.
Tomorrow Zac Gallen will make his first pitching appearance since his awful appearance against the Pirates. Gallen had never allowed 7 runs in a game in his career and allowed 7 in an inning before being pulled. This will more than likely not be the trend for him as they attempt to complete their first sweep of the season after clinching today tying and or winning 13 series this season already.
