This season the Arizona Diamondbacks have played in 3 different series, they have not lost a series yet. With a record now of 6-4, this concludes the series by tying the Dodgers first at 2-2, tying the Padres 1-1, and now beating the Dodgers 3-1. This is the first series the Diamondbacks have outright won, and besides the home opening game, it was complete domination.
In game one, Los Angeles looked like the typical Dodgers that come to town and trounce the Diamondbacks, scoring 5 runs and keeping Arizona to 2 or fewer runs for the 5th time this year already. After game 1 though, Arizona outscored the Dodgers 29-16 to remain at the top of the National League West.
After a bumpy start, the Diamondbacks offensively are finally firing on all cylinders. Apparently, the Easter Bunny came to Phoenix this year and gave every player a present. Every batter for Arizona recorded a hit in this game, and while it took Alek Thomas 7 games to get his first hit, yesterday he went 4 for 4, and today he recorded another hit and stole 1st base. Pavin Smith made his first appearance of the year going 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs. Arizona has recorded 43 hits in the last 3 days and this looks like the recipe Luvelo has been waiting for; confident at-bat attempts, speed, and efficiency created the victories they’ve been earning.
Ryne Nelson became the first Arizona pitcher to record a win next to his name today. Nelson recorded 6 innings pitched with only allowing 3 runs and 4 hits. Nelson started off rocky this game; allowing a runner to score and then getting the bases loaded, but he mitigated the damage by getting out of the inning with only 1 run earned.
Tomorrow the Dbacks will hope to continue their winning streak currently at 3 as Zac Gallen will face ex-Diamondback Wade Miley at 6:40 PM. Zac Gallen has had a very rough start to the year, currently with a 7.59 earned run average, whereas last year his ERA was 2.54. Hopefully, for Diamondbacks fans, Zac can return to form. Last year he was never permitted back-to-back games of 4 runs or more and now in his first 2 games, he’s already accomplished that feat.
